At Green Leaf Wood Studio we produce and sell handcrafted wooden bowls in a range of sizes. From small bowls for your keys and knick-knacks to salad bowls big enough for the largest family gathering, chances are we have something to suit your needs. The beauty of a solid one-piece bowl is something special. There is a warm, comfortable feeling associated with such a piece that cannot be matched by a bunch of pieces of wood glued together or, heaven forbid, modern plastics and steel. We offer one-of-a-kind, solid wood bowls which allow the full character and beauty of the grain to shine through. The other nice thing about solid bowls is there are no glue lines to eventually open up and split. The wood used in our bowls (and other large pieces) comes from locally found wood. What this means is that our supply comes to us via storm damage and fallen trees, tree-trimming services and the log recycling depot (where the town turns logs into mulch) in our neighbourhood. We do not cut down otherwise healthy trees just for the sake of some pretty wood. That is just silly and irresponsible considering how much wood is fallen everyday by Mother Nature. In fact, the tree trimmer we get much of our stock from often turns down jobs because there is nothing wrong with the tree in question (the homeowner just wants it gone). Now THAT is responsible. Because of all of this we get a variety of woods all of the time. Not all of our bowls will be in maple or cherry or anything else. We get what Mother Nature provides. But then again, that does add some spice and keeps life interesting. All of the work seen throughout this website are handcrafted on a wood lathe. There are no computer guided plasma cutters measuring within thousandths of an inch. No plotting, CNC, CAD/CAM thingamabobs. It's just the artist (Steve Kubien), his lathe and a gouge. As such, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same shape or dimensions. Can copies or multiples be made? Sure, just don't expect them to be exact and forget about using your rulers and micrometers on them. You can also see a variety of my products on my Etsy site, http://www.greenleafwood.etsy.com/. Check out is especially easy through Etsy.
